Valencia have underperformed for the major part of this season. Los Che are currently ninth in the Spanish league table and it will be a real battle for them to finish in the top half of the table.
But Valencia have the power to have their say in this season’s title race. The Mestalla based side beat Barcelona a few weeks ago and on Sunday they would cause a real upset by beating Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid. Anything other than three points could mean the end of Los Blancos’s title challenge.
Real Madrid are a point behind the top two – Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. The ten-time European champions are also behind these two teams if we consider the aggregate head-to-head result. So, Real Madrid need a win and also both the other contenders to have a slip-up in the remaining fixtures.
Real Madrid will welcome back Cristiano Ronaldo who will also feature for them in the Champions League semi-final against Manchester City. Gareth Bale stepped up in absence of their main goal scorer as he guided Real Madrid to two narrow victories in La Liga.
The Welshman scored an 80th minute winner at Real Sociedad on Saturday to clinch all three points for the men in white. Valencia, on the other hand, lost 0 – 2 against the visitors Villarreal at the weekend. After the victory over Valencia, Villarreal have now sealed their place in the top four.
Real Madrid have a perfect record in La Liga with six wins from their last six games. Valencia’s form has definitely improved but it is still way mediocre as compared to Real. Valencia have three wins and a draw from their last six league outings.
It will be an interesting weekend in Spain as the potential champions can be crowned on Sunday.
