FA Cup Final Preview: Manchester United vs Crystal Palace

Manchester United have ended the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign at the fifth spot. Despite finishing on same points as Pellegrini’s City, Louis van Gaal’s team have missed out on the Champions League berth due to inferior goal difference in comparison to Manchester City.

It was yet another underwhelming season for the 20-time English champions, however, a silverware can give the Old Trafford faithful a reason to smile. The Red Devils haven’t won the FA Cup since 2004, where they beat Millwall 3 – 0 at the Millennium Stadium. No player in Manchester United’s current squad has lifted the FA Cup while wearing the red jersey. United’s skipper Wayne Rooney joined Old Trafford in 2004 and has come within touching distance of the trophy on two occasions.

If Manchester United manage to beat Crystal Palace on Saturday, they will again tie with Arsenal for the most number of FA Cup trophies. The Gunners picked up their 12th trophy last season, their second consecutive win in the domestic cup competition.

Crystal Palace met United in the final of the 1990 FA Cup and got beaten in their solitary final of the competition. The 1990 FA Cup was also the trophy that saved Sir Alex Ferguson’s job at Old Trafford.

United have a much better form than Alan Pardew’s team. The Premier League giants have won four and drawn one of their last six league encounters while Palace have lost three and drawn two.

Man United beat Crystal Palace 2 – 0 this season at Old Trafford while they were held in a goalless draw at Selhurst Park.
