Chelsea vs Leicester City Tips & Match Preview

Jamie Vardy and co. received a ‘Guard of Honour’ in their penultimate game of the season and they might get it again on the last match day as the former Premier League champions play host to the new ones at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Claudio Ranieri was sacked from the helm at Chelsea in May 2004 and now he will proudly return to his former employers with a Premier League winners’ medal. Leicester’s fairy tale run in the league this season couldn’t have had a better end as they meet the former champions – who incidentally helped them get the crown after holding Tottenham to a 2 – 2 draw last week – in their last match.

The result of this fixture won’t have an effect on the fight for the European spots or any other significant event but Chelsea can plummet to the bottom half of the table if they don’t pick up three more points from their last two games. The Blues face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on Wednesday prior to the clash at Stamford Bridge against the newly-crowned champions.

The Foxes have a much better form than their opponents on Sunday. The table toppers have four wins and two draws from their last six league outings while the West Londoners have won two and lost three of their last six league fixtures.

Leicester City defeated Chelsea in their last meeting in the Premier League in December 2015. The match at King Power Stadium ended 2 – 1 with Vardy and Mahrez getting on the score sheet for the hosts. Until this win, Chelsea had a perfect record over Leicester with eight wins out of eight matches in all competitions since 2001.

Leicester City have already lifted the Barclays Premier League trophy and now their next big challenge would be to retain this set of players and prepare a team to compete in the Champions League.

Leicester have been underestimated pretty much all season by the bookie, it looks like they are doing the same again in this fixture. Yes, Leicester have already won the league, but they will still have motivation to win and end the season on a high. At the very least a draw looks likely.
