Swansea City vs Burnley – The Liberty Stadium – February 10

Both teams have come out of weekend games that will give them considerable morale boost going forward. While Burnley managed to eke out an impressive 1-1 draw against the near-invincible Manchester City, Swansea continued their dream 2018 run by holding Leicester City to a similar score-line away at the King Power stadium. The draw with Leicester City takes the Swans’ unbeaten run to six games since new coach Carlos Carvalhal took over on December 28. From languishing at the bottom of the EPL table for their initial 22 outings, they are now fighting out of relegation territory at the 17th spot, positioned above Stoke City, Huddersfield Town and West Bromwich.

But if the form guide were to be considered, Sean Dyche’s Burnley despite their unexpectedly good show against reigning leaders City, are a pale shadow to that of the Swans. The Clarets are yet to win a game in 2018, having lost 4 of their 6 outings and not found success since they beat Stoke City on December 12. But even after such a dismal run of games, the Clarets have amazingly slipped just 2 places from the 5th spot to 7th, where they are placed currently.

Going into February 10th’s clash with Swansea City where they travel to, Burnley will hope to break this winless jinx. The Clarets have a better record on the road than at home and the arrival of the speedy Aaron Lennon from Everton have given new life to Burnley’s attack especially from the right flank. Lennon almost scored in the Man City clash but for a stunning save from goal-keeper Ederson. The back-line of Ben Mee, Phil Bardsley, Kevin Long and Charlie Taylor were impressive against a dominant City, so handling Swansea’s forwards should give them some confidence. They have in the forward line now a combination in Sam Vokes, Ashley Barnes and Lennon that can give them goals. But stopping the Swans from scoring could be a problem. Carvalhal’s men have found the back of the net in every game since December 30. Forwards Jordan Ayew, Sam Clucas, Alfie Mawson and even their center-back Federico Fernandez have all been among goals of late.

Not surprisingly, the odds are very much in favor of the home team for the Liberty stadium clash. But it should be a cracker of a match with goals coming both ways.

While Burnley would want a win desperately to prevent them from slipping one more notch down the points table, Swansea will hope to move ahead of 16th placed Newcastle, who have a couple of very difficult outings lined up.
