Real Madrid win their 10th Champions League Trophy

gareth baleReal Madrid win their 10th Champions League Trophy last night after a very tight match that could have gone either way.

Diego Costa was selected to start the match, but he was not fully fit has he suffered a hamstring problem just 1 week prior to this match against Barcelona, in which they won the La Liga Trophy.

It was always a risk to play him in this big match when he was not fully fit, and he was substituted off moments into the game, as he could not continue due to his hamstring problem.

Diego Godin managed to loop over the keeper in the 36th minute to score, as Cassilas made an poor decison to come off his line. Cassilas tried to move back to clear it off, but he failed and the ball had already crossed the line.

Atletico was very confortable in most parts of the game, as they had control but not until the last 15 minutes of normal time, Real Madrid were the most dangerous and it was Sergio Ramos header that saved Real Madrid by heading the winner at the 93rd minute of added time. Diego Simone was not happy that their were 5 minutes added time and kept disputing with the referee. Later in the match, he lost his temper near the end of extra time, as his side fell apart and in the end Atletico lost 4-1 with goals from Marcelo and a penalty goal from Cristiano Ronaldo.

Gareth Bale had arguably a really poor match, but he was the main hero that scored the winning goal during the 2nd part of the extra time, which made it more comfortable for Ancelotti’s side, as they went on to win their 10th Champions League trophy.

Sergio Ramos:

“It’s the most important goal I’ve ever scored,” Sergio Ramos said. “We made history against a great rival.”
