Accrington v Bury Friday 9th January 2015

Friday night brings a lancashire derby between two mid league two teams hoping to move up the table. If Bury are to progress to the play offs or even automatic promotion they are going to have to seriously improve on their recent performance which has seen just 7 points gained in the last 5 matches. Of late they lost 1-0 to Dagenham & Redbridge causing them to slip out of the playoff places and to give relegation battlers Dagenham a respite from the bottom 2.

Accrington Stanley’s form record is pretty much identical to Bury’s over the last 5 games with 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats. The latest win against Exeter an important victory to give them some hope of scraping a play off place. With a 92 minute winner from Tom Aldred they left it late but took a deserved victory.

The two teams are hard to separate in what will be a close game, but given Accrington’s strong recent form at home and Bury’s poor form away Accrington may just tip the balance and take 3 points.

Either way I don’t expect the goals to be flying in this fixture with no more than 3 in total, the identical fixure last year ended 0-0, since then Bury claimed a 2-1 victory but at home. Bury have the stronger record historically with 8 wins against Accrington historically, but I fancy Acrington to take something from this game given their strong 2nd half display against Exeter recently, compared to Bury’s weak performance against Dagenham.
