Wolfsburg v Bayern Munich Match Preview & Tips

Last season’s runners-up VfL Wolfsburg will face the reigning champions and league leaders Bayern Munich on Saturday.

Wolfsburg and the Bavarian giants were ten points apart when the league wind down in May last year. At present, Bayern Munich are already 28 points ahead of Die Wölfe and if Bayern’s dominance in the Bundesliga continues, the points difference will only increase with 12 games still remaining in the competition.

Pep Guardiola’s men picked up yet another impressive victory at the weekend as Thomas Muller ran the show in the 3 – 1 win over Darmstadt. The German striker netted a brace including a spectacular acrobatic bicycle kick goal. Robert Lewandowski scored the third goal, taking his season tally to 22.

Wolfsburg played a 1 – 1 draw at Hertha BSC. Schafer opened the scoring for the visitors but Berliner’s Kalou cancelled their lead. However, Wolfsburg grabbed a crucial victory over Gent in last week’s Champions League clash. The German side won 3 – 2 in Belgium and thus they’ll play with more confidence in the return leg at the Volkswagen Arena.

Although they are the favourites to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League, they will be the underdogs for the weekend’s clash against the German giants. Dieter Hecking’s men have lost two and drawn two of their last six fixtures in all competitions since returning from the winter break. Bayern, on the other hand, have won five and drawn one of their last six games. The 0 – 0 draw came against Bayer Leverkusen on February 6.

Bayern Munich hammered Wolfsburg 5 – 1 when these two sides met in first half of the Bundesliga season. It was the game when Robert Lewandowski came from the bench and created history by scoring five goals in just nine minutes.

However, Wolfsburg came out on top at Volkswagen Arena last season. In January 2015, Wolfsburg punished Die Bayern as Kevin de Bruyne inspired them to a 4 – 1 win. De Bruyne’s move to Manchester City has deeply affected Wolfsburg’s performance. Bayern Munich are heavy favourites to win this clash on February 27.

I can see Robert Lewandowski scoring. So let’s take a change on First Goalscorer.
