West Ham have conceded the fifth spot in the Premier League table after the stalemate at home against Crystal Palace. The Hammers have another stern test coming up as they play host to Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal at Upton Park.
Slaven Bilic’s men dropped two crucial points on Saturday after a soft sending off of Kouyate in the 67th minute directly affected the outcome of the game. Delaney drew first blood for Crystal Palace but the home team made a comeback and prior to the sending off they were leading 2 – 1 courtesy of Lanzini’s 18th minute opener and Payet’s incredible freekick goal in the 41st minute. Arguably, a draw wasn’t a fair result as Alan Pardew’s men didn’t deserve to take a point from the match.
Arsenal picked up a 4 – 0 win against Watford at home. The Gunners are 11 points behind the league leaders Leicester City with a game-in-hand. The North Londoners can realistically finish at the second spot as Tottenham drew the game against Liverpool on Saturday.
The East London club West Ham have slightly better form than their opponents on Saturday. West Ham have won three and drawn three of their last six league fixtures while the Gunners have won three, lost two and drawn one of their last six games in the Premier League.
West Ham defeated Arsenal 2 – 0 at the Emirates in the first half of the season. But prior to that, Hammers lost ten back-to-back games against the Premier League giants. Their last league triumph over Arsenal at home was in November 2006, almost a decade ago. Arsenal are again the favourites to take all three points from the early kick-off on Saturday. This fixture will be crucial for both the sides as neither side can afford to drop many points in this business end of the season.
