Man Utd v Arsenal – FA CUP March 9th 2015

Man Utd and Arsenal will fight it out on Monday in what is the highest profile tie of the FA Cup’s sixth round. Chelsea and Man City have already departed, so it is up to Man Utd and Arsenal to put on an exciting match for football fans.

Because of Man Utd’s subpar away record this season, the Reds will be delighted that they get to play Arsenal at Old Trafford, where they have played much better. Notably, the Reds have the second best home record in the Premier League.

Comparably, Arsenal have much better than Man Utd in away games, winning at least twice as often. However, their concern is that they have already lost to Man Utd. Oddly, this came in a 2-1 loss when Arsenal played at the Emirates.

Expectations

Man Utd have struggled often this season because Louis van Gaal has adopted a conservative approach in which his team prefers to retain possession rather than take risks. Another concern is that van Gaal has been trying to accommodate his star players at the expense of the team’s performances.

Since losing to Man Utd in November, Arsenal have played a lot better. Alexis Sánchez has been astonishing, while the long-term returns of Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud have both helped the Gunners. They will be much more effective against Man Utd.

Picking a winner in this game is incredibly tough, but Arsenal have a fantastic opportunity because of the pace they possess on the counter-attack. Man Utd’s defence could potentially be carved open. Similarly, Arsenal’s defence is also vulnerable, with the slow Per Mertesacker also proving to be prone to mistakes.

Match Tips

Tip one: Over 2.5 goals @ 1.80 with Betfair
Tip two: Both teams to score in second half @ 3.00 with Betfair

Defence is the Achilles heel of both teams. While Wenger persists with the mistake-prone Mertesacker, van Gaal doesn’t have any central defenders he can rely on. Backing both teams to score in the second half will yield competitive odds of 3.0 with Betfair.
