Ronald Koeman will in all likelihood not occupy the coach’s seat after the Toffees 2-5 hammering by Arsenal in their own patch, Goodison Park. Struggling in the 18th place currently after Sunday’s defeat, Everton now head to Leicester City for their next Premier League outing. They will be without their defensive mid-fielder Idrissa Gueye, red-carded in the 68th minute in the Arsenal game. The back-line of Michael Keane, Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams were totally substituted a little after half-time, a desperate move by Koeman to stem the tide of Arsenal attacks. The Leicester City attack is not comparable to an Arsenal attack in full flow which will allow the Toffees same breathing space at the King Power stadium this weekend.
Leicester City’s record of wins (just 2 so far from their 9 games) is no better than Everton’s, the only difference being that they have lost one less. Moreover, coach Craig Shakespeare’s Foxes are on the path of a revival of sorts having not lost a single of their 4 games since September 19th starting with a 2-0 win over Liverpool in the EFL Cup and a satisfying 1-2 away win against Swansea City on Saturday. Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki with 5 and 4 goals respectively will bear down on the Everton defence heavily, but goalie Jordan Pickford will again be pressed to keep attackers at bay as he did so against Arsenal, where he effected as many as a dozen good saves.
Everton have lost heavily in their games against top flight clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal, but to fancy their chances at the King Power stadium against a 14th placed Leicester they will have to up their game a bit as far as scoring goes. The Toffees have just 7 goals from their 9 Premier League outings and could very well come back empty handed from Leicester.
Everton have beaten Leicester City in both their home and away games in the 2016-17 season. The same cannot be said this time around. The odds heavily favour a Leicester City who will have Michael Appleton as their new manager by then.
Everton meanwhile have Chelsea to contend with in a mid-week EFL Cup clash away at Stamford Bridge. But going ahead, the management at Goodison Park have serious issues to deal with apart from the tenure of coach Ronald Koeman. Even after splurging over a £100 million in new talent this season, the Toffees find themselves at the bottom of the table. Something needs to be change fast and soon at Goodison Park.
