The month-end Stamford Bridge clash will be among the most awaited ones for the 2017-18 Premier league season. Coach Pep Guardiola’s side held on to their apex position on the EPL Table by crushing Crystal Palace 5-0 at the Etihad last Saturday. With 21 goals to their credit from just 6 games, City are on a goal-fest. Sergie Aguero, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane have been all among the goals notching up tallies of 6,5,4 and 3 goals respectively. City are four goals clear of 2nd placed Manchester United, who struggled to beat Southampton at the St. Mary’s Park on Saturday. Gabriel Jesus was given a rest for the Palace match keeping in mind City’s mid-week UEFA Champions group fixture against the visiting Shakhtar Donetsk. Man City’s £45 million signing Bernardo Silva who came in for Sterling in the 61st minute against Palace looks a doubtful starter for the Stamford Bridge clash given the attacking riches crowding City’s forward ranks. Their defense comprising of Tottenham-import Kyle Walker, John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi and Monaco acquisition Benjamin Mendy have hardly been tested in the current season and the meager 2 goals they have conceded so far is a testimony to that. But it could get shaky at times as witnessed from the fact that the only two goals they conceded were to un-threatening sides like Everton and Bournemouth.

Pep Guardiola’s back-line could come under some amount of pressure at Stamford Bridge from a Chelsea attack that has witnessed a revival of sorts after their opening hiccup against Burnley. The Blues have won four of their 5 games since then, capping it with a brilliant 0-4 away win over Stoke City last weekend. Coach Antonio Conte’s £70 million acquisition from Real Madrid seems to be paying back big time, getting six of the 12 Premier League goals in the current season so far, the hat-trick against Stoke being the icing on the cake. Chelsea’s searing recent form is magnified more by the fact that the thrashing of Stoke was meted out without heavy-weights like Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and Gary Cahill around. The stalwarts are being rested for the tough away Champions’ League group outing against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. Apart from the fact that they will be playing at home, a battle-hardened Chelsea will be returning from their European outing at Madrid and probably feel a bit more confident in taking on a complacent City who have a relatively easier fixture against Shakhtar Donetsk coming up ahead. Moreover Antonio Conte’s attack will be in full-strength with Hazard and Fabregas back for the Stamford Bridge clash.

Chelsea have won three of their four previous encounters with Man City. But it’s not history, but current form the bookmakers have taken into account while betting on a win for the visitors at Stamford Bridge on September 30.
